Drugs and weapons seized from downtown Red Deer apartment

A Red Deer man is facing charges after RCMP seized drugs, drug trafficking equipment and weapons from a downtown apartment.

RCMP executed a search warrant around 11 p.m. on Friday night at an apartment on 51 Avenue at 44 Street.

Four people were inside, all of whom were taken into custody without incident. Two were later released without charge.

During the seizure, Mounties discovered methamphetamine, crack cocaine and cocaine, as well as a number of weapons including a stun gun and three machetes.

Ahmed Yonis, 52, faces counts related to possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possessing a prohibited weapon and possession of stolen property.

Yonis made his first court appearance Monday morning and will appear again on June 15.

24-year-old Rickell Frenchman was located in the residence and was found to be wanted on outstanding warrants for assault and failing to appear in court. She was remanded to appear in court on May 29.
