H.W. Pickup Junior High School will get a name change

After first getting a new principal for the fall, H.W. Pickup Junior High School will be receiving a name change.
At its regular meeting on Tuesday Wild Rose School Division decided to go ahead with the name change of the junior high, due to the school transforming into a middle school come the fall after it was announced in March that Evergreen Elementary School would be closing for major renovations.
The division says in order to properly reflect that it will become a middle school it will be rebranded as H.W. Pickup School, as grades five to eight will be taught in the building.
The school will be housing extra students that will be displaced for the next three years due to the Evergreen Elementary closure and the impact on grade configurations in Drayton Valley.
