The top 10 finalists for the “Small Town Saturday Night Contest” have been revealed, with five central Alberta towns making the list.

The Top 10 Alberta Communities in order of votes received are:  La Glacé, Peace River, Innisfail, Rimbey, Viking, Rocky Mountain House, Ashmont, Drayton Valley, Duchess, and Crowsnest Pass.

Over 30 communities from across the province entered, with the number of ballots being cast exceeding 100,000 in a two week period.

“The response has been incredible, and just goes to show the reaches of the Big Valley Jamboree Music Festival over the last 25 year, it is going to be an amazing experience and we look forward to putting on an unforgettable show to the winning community, “ Small Town Saturday Night headlining artist Gord Bamford said in a press release.

In addition to being the host of the mini Big Valley Jamboree concert, the winning community has the chance to use the event as a fundraiser to support a local charity or municipal initiative of their choice.

Past events helped communities like Slave Lake raise $93,000 to build a new playground, and $67,000 was raised for the town of Bashaw School Arts Infusion Program.

The next round of voting will begin at noon on March 13 to decide who wins the top prize, with BVJ producing videos for voters to watch of each of the communities in the top 10.

The community that captures the most votes will be announced on March 28, and the grand prize concert will take place on April 29.
