Ponoka Stampede chuckwagon canvas auction results

The canvas auction for the 2017 Ponoka Stamepde chuckwagon races took place Friday night at the Stagecoach Saloon.

Three former Ponoka Stampede champions – Kurt Bensmiller, Chad Harden and Troy Dorchester – all tied for the top bid at $18,000.

Total sales for the canvas auction were $318,000.

Also, a special auction was held for a charity race that will take place at the Stampede on June 27. Three generations of Sutherlands – Kelly, Kirk, Mark and Dayton – will hit the track in a staged match raised. The four drivers sold for a total of $23,000 which will be split between the Ponoka Festival of Trees, Pace Kids, and ProRodeo Sports Medicine charities.

As well, a special edition print of the 2017 Ponoka Stampede Poster featuring local Canadian Pro Rodeo Hall of Famer Bud Butterfield – six-time Canadian Steer Wrestling Champion – sold for $600.
