Lacombe city council approves public consultation to improve downtown parking

After receiving input from downtown business owners, Lacombe city council approved a public consultation process targeting parking improvements in the downtown core.

The City says they often receive requests for more parking in the area. While they admit some requests cannot be accommodated due to space limitations, site lines and other considerations, the City says they do look to advance adequate access and to work with businesses whenever possible.

Administration evaluated improvements to two areas which will add an estimated 25 new parking stalls downtown:

  • The public parking lot at 5026 49 St (+8 parking stalls)
  • On-street parking along 49B Ave (+17 parking stalls)

“Council has always looked to prioritize our vibrant and historic downtown through a variety of initiatives,” said Mayor Grant Creasey. “This consultation process will help ensure the core is accessible, properly serviced and convenient for all our residents.”

City administration says they will seek feedback from the businesses, landowners adjacent to these parking areas, and the public before returning to council for a parking lot reconfiguration decision.

The City says they will notify businesses and landowners within 60 metres of the proposed properties through direct letters and an invitation to participate in a survey. The general public will also have an opportunity to take the survey, to be shared on the City’s social media channels and Lacombe.ca.
