Ottawa to celebrate Canada Day “virtually” this year

OTTAWA – This summer’s national celebration might look a little different.

Canadian Heritage has put out a statement on behalf of the federal government, saying it plans to offer a different kind of event compared to what they would normally have on Parliament Hill.

“In light of the current and ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in Canada and around the world, our government has decided to celebrate Canada Day differently this year, in a way that will allow us to come together virtually to share our pride in being Canadian.”

They are working with Canadian “artists and artisans” to put together a virtual program that reflects “our diversity and values” and showcases the immense talent this country has to offer.

Since the beginning of the public health crisis, Canadian Heritage says Canadians have shown solidarity with one another and they have seen the ways people have shown kindness, generosity, and resilience.
