Better days are ahead, says Red Deer-South MLA

Mar 26, 2020 | 7:30 PM

Dear Friends,

Early March I participated in events hosted by our local Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club sharing exciting developments in the Alberta budget addressing our community’s needs, including local hospital and shelter investments.

Since that time, our world has changed in a profound, unprecedented manner, with the World Health Organization declaring COVID-19 to be a global pandemic.

As a result of COVID-19, the Alberta Government’s focus is, in order:

1. Public health and safety for Alberta individuals and families,

2. Financial support for individuals and families to pay for basic necessities, and

3. Support for Alberta businesses in the face of adverse, global market forces.

The Government has, and will be announcing, in the coming days and weeks, actions and policies supporting these paramount priorities.

To assist in this effort, the Government has appointed an Economic Recovery Council, chaired by leading economist Jack Mintz, and composed of 12 policy and industry experts. More on this Council can be found at www.alberta.ca/economic-recovery-council.aspx

Enduring Well

Enduring well is easier said than done; it can be hard, but it is worth it. Many of us have experienced the joy that comes from persevering through harder days, and having done so, arriving at better days.

Our families and friends provide opportunities to strengthen and serve in love, with patience, and by example. For many, faith is an unfailing anchor of strength and clearer perspective in these turbulent times.

We endure well as we look outside of ourselves, in our own circumstances, to lift and support our neighbors. We are blessed with many great individuals, families, businesses, churches and service organizations in our community, quietly and consistently, serving and encouraging others irrespective of their own challenges. These are real heroes.

Covid-19 is temporary, it will pass; better days are ahead.

Jason Stephan
MLA, Red Deer-South
