RDC volleyball players named to ACAC All-Conference teams

Three RDC volleyball players have been recognized for their outstanding efforts both on and off the court this season.

Those players include Miranda Dawe and Chanelle Kayser from the Queens who have been selected to the 2017-2018 ACAC Women’s Volleyball South All-Conference Team, while Adam Turlejski from the Kings has been named to the 2017-2018 Men’s Volleyball South All-Conference Team.

Officials with RDC Athletics say both Dawe and Kayser helped lead their team to second place in the ACAC Women’s Volleyball South Division with an 18-6 record and a trip to the playoffs.

Dawe is a Grande Prairie native and a Kinesiology and Sport Studies student in her fifth year. The outside hitter is also a two-time national champion who recorded 271 kills this season with a 0.421 hitting percentage and 3.30 kills per set average which placed her second in the ACAC in Women’s Volleyball this year.

Kayser is a graduating setter from Calgary and a Bachelor of Science Nursing student. She earned 719 assists this year, surpassing the milestone of 2,000 over her five years and averaging 8.36 per set which ranked her fourth in the league.

Dawe and Kayser received their honours at the ACAC Women’s Volleyball Banquet and Awards held at the Norseman Inn in Camrose February 21. The Queens are currently competing for gold at the ACAC Women’s Volleyball Championships at the University of Alberta Augustana Feb 22 – 24.

Adam Turlejski from the Kings meanwhile was honoured for his efforts on and off the court as well this season.

Originally from Australia, Turlejski is a fourth-year middle  who helped lead the Kings to a 15-9 record in the south which included a strong finish of six straight match victories. He’s a two-time Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Men’s Volleyball National Champion who recorded 142 kills, 20 service aces, 23 digs and 69 blocks this season, ranking him second in the league, averaging .81 blocks per set.

The Bachelor of Business Administration General Management student was honoured for his achievements at the ACAC Men’s Volleyball Banquet and Awards in Medicine Hat on February 21.
