The Sylvan Lake Sniper is getting a shot at playing for Team Canada at the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championship.

Tyler Steenbergen is one of 32 players invited to Team Canada’s final selection camp, Dec. 12 - 15 in St. Catharines, Ont.

Steenbergen has been superb for the Swift Current Broncos this season having tallied 35 goals in just 27 games. He was selected in round five (128th overall) at this year’s NHL Draft by the Arizona Coyotes.

The Broncos will be in Red Deer to take on the Rebels this Saturday, Dec. 9. It’s uncertain whether Steenbergen will play in that game as he is currently out of the Broncos lineup for 7-10 days with a lower body injury.

Former Rebels defenceman Josh Mahura of the Regina Pats has also been invited to next week’s selection camp.

Canada opens the 2018 World Junior Hockey Championship in Buffalo on Boxing Day against Finland.
