Red Deer Public School Trustee candidate Laurette Woodward is a mother of two children who both attend Red Deer Public schools.

She says her kids have really enjoyed their experience in the public system so far.

“They’ve run into great educators, great administrators and I would like to be a part of that system. I’m excited to run because of that,” she told rdnewsNOW.

Woodward added, “I love children, I‘ve worked in Chinook’s Edge School Division for six years and I’ve also worked with school divisions throughout the province as a consultant doing communications, so that’s really important to me, schools reaching out into the community, both to parents and to people out in the community to understand and listen and take those values into our school systems, so they can reflect the local values.”

“I’m really passionate about parents and their connection with children. I’ve been passionate about that for many years” Woodward explains.

She says the research is very clear that when parents are involved in their children’s education, the children do better. “They do better in their academics, they do better socially, they do better in attendance. All of those things that we want to see for children that make them successful happen when we involve parents. It’s really important to me.”
