Jonathan Wieler is taking a second crack at earning a seat on Red Deer City Council in the Oct. Municipal Election.
After running for the first time in 2013, Wieler says the passion still burn in him to serve the community he calls home.
Wieler grew up in Red Deer and has made his living in the oil and gas industry. He currently owns a safety training business in our city.
Environmental sustainability is one of Wieler’s true passions. He says decisions made today need to be done in a way that moves Red Deer closer to reaching its environmental goals.
Red Deer’s “elephant in the room” as he told rdnewsNOW is the fact that people are still sleeping on the streets, citing a lack of shelter space, and the need for a “full spectrum” approach to tacking the opioid epidemic.
Wieler has also made crime prevention a top priority of his platform and is promoting using GPS ankle bracelets to monitor repeat offenders. He told the audience at the Oct. 4 election forum that he wants to see the province “buck up and pay the bill” for a program he says is effective at preventing repeat offenders from striking again.
He also said he’d like to see Red Deer’s business sector become more diverse with hopes of attracting new investment in our city.
More details on Wieler’s platform are available at his website.
