Less than a week before Nomination Day, Red Deer has just one candidate for mayor.

Incumbent Tara Veer announced in August she is seeking a second term in office.

Two potential challengers, Jason Habuza and Helen Bricker, had each declared their intentions to run for mayor, but in recent Facebook posts announced they were dropping out of the race.

The City of Red Deer election website currently lists 23 candidates for the eight available city council seats, with more expected to roll in.

Nomination Day for candidates for mayor, city council and school boards is on Monday, September 18.
