AHS co-hosts provincewide bladder cancer education event

CALGARY- Alberta Health Services (AHS) and Bladder Cancer Canada are inviting bladder cancer patients from across the province to attend a patient education event next month.

The event will be broadcast live on Friday, April 20, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and can be viewed at a number of locations including the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.

Speakers will share the latest information about bladder cancer, current treatments and what the future holds.

The event is also open to family and friends of bladder cancer patients, as well as to their healthcare professionals.

The following topics and speakers will be featured:

   – Nonmuscle-invasive bladder cancer, surgery and urinary diversions – Dr. Geoffrey Gotto, urologic oncologist and clinical associate professor at the University of Calgary

   – Drug therapy in the management of invasive bladder cancer, current strategies and future possibilities – Dr. Scott North, Director of Medical Oncology, Cross Cancer Institute

   – Navigating the nutrition essentials of bladder health – Registered dietitians Miranda Wong and Leanne Mulesa, University of Alberta Hospital

   – A bladder cancer survivor story – Courtney Blackshaw, Bladder Cancer Canada volunteer and co-lead organizer of Calgary Awareness Walk
