Tell us how we should be green in Red Deer

Mar 22, 2018 | 5:31 AM

RED DEER- A survey is now open for citizens to share their feedback on environmental issues in Red Deer, as part of the Environmental Master Plan.

The survey will help The City shape the next phase of the Environmental Master Plan (EMP), which was first developed in 2011 and set short, medium and long-term strategies for achieving environmental sustainability.

“Community input is an important component of this project,” said Nancy Hackett, Environmental Initiatives Supervisor. “We’ve been working with a Citizen Engagement Group, but this survey is an opportunity for us to hear more broadly from the community.”

In addition to the survey, citizens can also provide their feedback at two upcoming events:

EcoLiving Fair, Red Deer College – March 24
Let’s Talk, Parkland Mall – April 7

Feedback collected, along with the work of the Community Engagement Group and stakeholder consultations, will help the city identify the community’s environmental priorities, actions both The City and the community can take to protect the environment.

“The EMP set a 25-year vision, but we committed to review the our progress periodically to ensure the plan still reflects current trends and reflects the needs of the community,” said Hackett. “And that’s the point we’re at today – we’re refreshing the plan and considering where
we need to make changes to ensure we’re positioned for continued success.”

The revised EMP is expected to be completed mid-year.

Citizens can complete the survey at www.reddeer.ca/survey until April 9.
