Nov 20, 2017 | 3:08 PM

Are you SEXcessful? Let’s create some buzz about positive sexual health.

The Central Alberta Sexual Assault Support Centre (CASASC), the Students’ Association of Red Deer College (S.A.) and two third-year BScN students of RDC have partnered together for Are you SEXcessful? An awareness and guidance event.

Join us on Friday, November 24, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. outside of the main gym, at the bottom of the S.A. stairs at Red Deer College.

The purpose is to create awareness around sexual health including illness prevention, contraception, respect, consent, STIs, safer sexual behaviours, cultural factors, media, gender, and relationships. The organizers’ goal is to prevent negative outcomes surrounding sexuality before they are initiated.

Several community partners will have information booths on site including the Central Alberta Pregnancy Care Centre, Central Alberta Pride Society, the Teen Sexual Health Clinic, CASASC, Home Church, Trans and Non-Binary Aid Society, Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter, RDC’s Counselling Centre Room, RDC’s Health, Safety & Wellness Centre Room, Turning Point Society of Central Alberta, RDC Aboriginal Services and the S.A.

This is the second year for the health promotion and prevention project between the three organizers. Last year’s event was titled GreyDay and centred on the concept of consent. This year CASASC will be focusing on respect.

Through the Culture of Respect campaign, CASASC invites everyone to commit to living a life of respect, within their community, workplace and home. Respect can be seen as one of the most important pillars for coexistence. The lack of respect is a root cause of many societal problems including bullying, harassment, violence, depression, sickness, wars and many others. CASASC refers to respect as a way of life, the responsibility and commitment that we all have when we relate, refer to or simply interact with other human beings and the environment. By promoting a culture of respect for others, you promote respect for yourself which is the most important.
