Gravel company reaches agreement with AEP in relation to Drayton Valley pit

Apr 24, 2018 | 8:56 AM

A gravel supply company’s environmental appeals board hearing scheduled for Wednesday regarding a gravel pit near Drayton Valley has been called off due to the appeal being withdrawn.

Associated Aggregates Incorporated’s appeal was in relation to a decision that the company violated a section of the Water Act by excavating which resulted in a pit lake and a constructed berm that were not approved.

AAI and AEP have now reached an agreement about the work that was required under the remediation order to ensure that the overall intent of the order will be met.

The Alberta government issued an order to AAI last summer for the company to restore a portion of a sand and gravel pit adjacent to the North Saskatchewan River after a south-end pit lake was constructed without approval.
