Flood watch in effect for Waskasoo Creek

The Province has issued a flood watch for the Waskasoo Creek and with water levels rising across the city, The City of Red Deer is asking residents to stay away from rivers, creeks and flooded areas.  

Officials say Waskasoo Creek has exceeded capacity, overflowing its banks and causing flooding in some areas. Water levels are expected to continue to rise over the next few days.

The following parks are affected by flooding:

– Barrett Park is closed, extending from Ross Street to Kinex Arena.
– Rotary Park, including the playground and skate park, is closed.
– Waskasoo Park has some localized flooding.
