Red Deer construction season getting underway

Apr 22, 2018 | 10:33 AM

They say there are two seasons in Canada; winter and construction season.

Now that it appears winter may be over, the construction season is getting underway in The City of Red Deer.

That means residents can anticipate crews beginning work on two projects in particular on Monday, April 23, those being the Ross Street Water Main Replacement and more on the 67 Street / Johnstone Drive Roundabout.

Officials say Environmental Services is working with a contractor to replace the Ross Street Water Main, one of the oldest in the city dating back to 1935. As a result, lane closures can be expected along Ross Street between 46 Avenue and 49 Avenue during construction, with parking to be impacted but local businesses still accessible. Lane closures will start the week of April 30 weather permitting.

Meantime, at the 67 Street / Johnstone Drive Roundabout, roadway construction is complete but landscaping within the main roundabout centre circle and along boulevards and trails will be completed this season. Both lanes of traffic in the roundabout will remain open but the truck apron will be closed while landscaping in the centre circle is in progress.

Elsewhere, Environmental Services crews have already begun work on another project at Austin Drive and 22 Street.

That began on April 16 with drivers reminded to slow down through construction zones and obey all signs posted in these areas.
