Results in from Pony Chuckwagon Tarp Auction

Local businesses came together at the Sheraton Hotel Special Events Centre in Red Deer April 18, vying for an opportunity to promote their business during one of the biggest events throughout central Alberta each year.

The 20th Annual Westerner Days Red Deer Motors North American Pony Chuckwagon Championships Tarp Auction was held Wednesday night.

The event gave businesses a chance to bid on having their name and logo displayed on one of the 40 wagons and 20 chariots slated to compete at this year’s Westerner Days Fair & Exposition. Nearly four thousand spectators take in the Red Deer Motors North American Pony Chuckwagon Championships each year at Westerner Park.

Westerner Park officials say the highest selling tarp for the evening went to ABC Country Restaurant who purchased Neil Salmond for $4,400. The total for the tarp auction was $103,650 for an average of $2,591 per tarp.

The highest selling chariot was Marty Maxwell who purchased PWE Rentals for $1,300. The total for the chariot auction was $14,005, an average of $700 per chariot.

Officials are also pleased to welcome the Alberta Professional Chuckwagon & Chariot Association (APCCA) back to the Westerner Days Fair & Exposition as the sanctioning organization for the Red Deer Motors North American Pony Chuckwagon Championships for 2018.

Westerner Days runs from Wednesday, July 18 – Sunday, July 22 this year.
