Downtown welcomes new thrift store

Apr 20, 2018 | 9:00 AM

A new thrift shop is bringing fresh life to Red Deer’s downtown.

reNew Thrift Store opened April 7 and is located in the old Cowboys night club location.

Store Manager Deborah Fehr says with the recent move of another thrift store out of the downtown, it was important to resume serving that area.

“So many of the people [downtown] need that affordable pricing,” she says. “So whether it be clothing, household items, or electronics, that’s why we chose this location.”

reNew is operated by an eight-person board and is a non-profit Christian organization, according to its website. Fehr says they rely on volunteers and always need more.

“All of our moneys go back into the community,” she says. “As money comes in, we designate it to different ministries or organizations.”

Fehr adds that they’ve heard no complaints about them moving in, other than that there isn’t enough parking in that lot.

Citizens can donate items at the back of the store off Little Gaetz from Monday to Friday between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
