Tax hike pegged at 1.5%

A tax rate increase of 1.5 per cent is what Red Deer residents and business owners are looking at for this year.

City council gave unanimous approval to first reading to the 2018 Tax Bylaw at their Monday night meeting.

The owner of a home assessed at $325,000 would see their tax bill increase by $44.64 for the year ($3.72 per month).

Council approved a 2.02 per cent tax rate increase during Operating Budget debate in January. The lower 1.5 per cent increase reflects changes to requisitions for Alberta Education and the Piper Creek Foundation,
