Calgary woman pleads guilty to criminal negligence in toddler’s death
CALGARY – The operator of an unlicensed Calgary day home has pleaded guilty to criminal negligence causing the death of an 18-month-old girl.
An autopsy found Ceira McGrath was asphyxiated by the strap of a car seat.
Court heard Ceira and her twin brother were left in the care of Elmarie Simons at the day home on Nov. 12, 2015.
Simons put the girl in a car seat that was too small for her, secured the toddler with the seat’s chest strap and left the girl in a closet for more than five hours.
