Sawing for Schools shipping custom table to Humboldt

People far and wide are doing what they can to help the Saskatchewan city of Humboldt recover and heal from the tragic bus crash on April 7 that claimed 16 lives.

One such example in Red Deer is what’s being done by Shawn Moore from Trimmed Line Tree Services and his Sawing for Schools club at Central Middle School.

Sawing for Schools members – who are all students – typically build wood items from repurposed trees and sell them to make money to keep the club going.

But Moore thought they could build something for Humboldt.

“We just wanted to do what we could and tie our kids to an opportunity to say our best wishes to them, so we just thought we would build them a table,” he explains. “Maybe it can be a nice reminder in their arena or wherever they want to put it that we were thinking about them.”

Moore says it’s hard to comprehend just how much the world has shown its support for Humboldt during this tough time, including with the response to the GoFundMe campaign which has raised over $10 million.

“This is just something that we should do and that we could do,” he says.

Hopes are to have the table’s centre engraved, and the table itself shipped off by the end of the month.
