Contract for Innisfail solar farm on hold

A massive solar farm planned for Innisfail remains on the table, but an agreement between the investor and the town still needs to be worked out.

This week, town council accepted a land lease agreement for information with the understanding there further changes may be required.

The proposal is for Temporis Developments to construct a 70-acre solar farm just north of the Innisfail Golf Club. It will provide between 15-20 megawatts of power to the overall power grid, enough to power 3000-4000 homes.

A town spokesperson says no date has been set for the contract to come back for approval.

Current terms of the contract include a five-year window for the company to get its affairs in order. If they haven’t done so in that period, then the agreement is null and void.

Otherwise, the contract is for 25 years, with rent set at $500/acre/year (adjusted annually for inflation).

The company has also committed to providing annual contributions to a Community Benefit Fund, at $1000/year/megawatt.
