ASDC-Central Female Athlete of the Month: Ruby Butler

Mar 29, 2018 | 11:25 AM

An artistic gymnast from Red Deer has been named the ASDC-Central Female Athlete of the Month for March.

Ruby Butler, 15, is a grade 10 student at Ecole Secondaire Notre Dame High School in Red Deer and has been a competitive artistic gymnast at Exelta Gymnastics for the past 10 years.

Officials with Alberta Sport Development Centre-Central say Butler began gymnastics when she was 14 months old and loved somersaulting, climbing and trampolining. She began competitive gymnastics at the age of four and is still excited to go to the gym every day, training over 22 hours per week at Exelta and coaching in the Exelta Recreational program every week.

The honors student is said to excel at the vault event of competitive artistic gymnastics and this season has seen her on the podium for vault in almost every competition she has entered.

Butler and her coach Barb Bilsborrow are both said to agree that in her three years with ASDC-Central, it has helped Butler with the mental side of her sport and allowed her to keep her focus positive.

It’s expected that with Butler’s strong work ethic, undeniable athletic abilities and her training experiences with ASDC-Central, she will continue to grow, develop and succeed in her artistic gymnastics career.
