There’s some good news for St. Matthew Catholic School.

Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools says the Pre-Kindergarten – Grade 8 school in Rocky Mountain House will be receiving four new modular classrooms for the 2018-2019 school year.

Officials say these modulars will be linked to the existing school, which is reaching its capacity according to projected enrollments.

“We are grateful that St. Matthew Catholic School has been awarded these four modulars. This is a positive sign for our local community. The additional classroom space will help to meet the needs of students,” said Dorraine Lonsdale, Trustee at Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools.

The school division says development permits have been submitted and tenders will go out in April. The modulars are scheduled to be completed after school opens in the fall.

“It is definitely an exciting new adventure for our school community to show and support our positive growth in Catholic education,” said Teresa Johnson, Principal at St. Matthew Catholic School. “The school community is enthusiastic and optimistic about the opportunity to better provide education for our students with possibilities of smaller class sizes and more options to effectively allocate classrooms to meet the needs of our students and our growing school community.”
