DIDSBURY- Charges have been laid against two youths after a police cruiser was rammed by a stolen vehicle.

On March 15, at approximately 8:00 p.m., officers attempted a traffic stop with a suspected stolen truck.

The driver rammed the police cruiser and pushed it out of the way, almost hitting another police cruiser in the process.

Mounties pursued the suspect vehicle into Innisfail where the two occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

With the help of Olds RCMP, Innisfail RCMP, Innisfail Traffic Services and Red Deer RCMP Police Dog Services, two suspects were arrested and taken into custody.

A 17-year-old boy faces nine charges including assault on a police officer with a weapon, flight from police, dangerous driving, resisting arrest, and possession of stolen property over $5000.

The passenger in the pickup, a 17-year-old girl faces five charges, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, possession of break in tools, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of cocaine.

Due to their ages, the teens can not be named.

Didsbury RCMP continue to investigate and are reminding citizens that the public plays a vital role in crime reduction.

Residents are encouraged to be observant and call police immediately if you spot something or someone suspicious.
