Education minister reviews superintendent salaries
EDMONTON – Alberta’s education minister has begun a review of salaries paid to school superintendents.
David Eggen says all districts must forward the employment contracts of their superintendents to his department by Friday.
Eggen says there is a wide gap among contracts and he is concerned some superintendents are being paid too little and some are getting too much.
The review comes after a survey made public last month found Alberta superintendents are paid “significantly higher” salaries than their counterparts in Ontario, Saskatchewan and B-C and got a 10 per cent hike between 2015 and 2016 while teachers’ salaries have stayed flat.
