Key Thunder staff depart after rough 20th anniversary season

Mar 8, 2018 | 8:08 AM

In a week that is reminiscent of White House level departure drama, four key Drayton Valley Thunder staff members have called it quits after a dismal season that was meant to be a celebration of the team marking 20 years in the AJHL.

A string of members have vacated this week, including General Manager Joey Bouchard and Head Coach Ryan Rechner. The Director of Player Development, Jason Nicholetts, and Head Scout Travis Gibson have also left the team.

Assistant Coach Derek Wiest will temporarily take over as head coach while the team search is on for a new hire.

Earlier this week Thunder President and Governor Monte Waronek called this past season “difficult.”
