Alleged act of vandalism revealed as cause of flooding at Omniplex over the weekend

An alleged act of vandalism has been revealed as the cause of a sprinkler pipe bursting in the Omniplex over the weekend that forced the lower level of the Total Works Fitness Centre to be closed.

On the evening of March 2 the pipe burst causing significant flooding in the lower level of the Total Works Fitness Centre. Once the cause of the damages was determined, the RCMP were called in to investigate an alleged act of vandalism.

Omni I and Total Works Fitness Centre were closed to the public Saturday morning until the damage could be assessed and public safety could be ensured. The closure forced a number of events to be cancelled in Omni I and disrupted activities at the Fitness Centre.

The upper and main levels of the Fitness Centre sustained no damage and remain open. The lower level which includes the free weight room and racquetball/squash courts will remain closed as the area still needs to dry out and then be repaired.
