Stony Plain beats Innisfail in OT for 2-0 playoff series lead

Burke Gallimore scored in overtime to give the Stony Plain Eagles a 3-2 win over the Innisfail Eagles Wednesday night in Senior AAA provincial playoffs action Wednesday night.

Stony Plain leads the best-of-seven provincial semi-final series 2-0.

Innisfail led 1-0 after the first period on a goal from Sam Lawson. Todd Fiddler replied for Stony Plain seven minutes into period two.

Braiden Doucette gave the northern birds a 2-1 lead with a power play tally 5:11 into period three before Kurt Bensmiller and Simon Desbiens scored 90 seconds apart midway through the period to give Innisfail a 3-2 lead.

Brad Bourke tied the game for Stony Plain with 2:09 left to play. Gallimore banked a shot off the end boards and in 7:10 into overtime to give Stony Plain the win.

Luke Siemens picked up the win in net for Stony after taking over for Davis Jones late in period two. The pair combined to make 49 saves on the night.

Kraymer Barnstable took the loss for Innisfail. The former Red Deer Rebels netminder turned aside 33 of the 37 shots he faced.

Game three of the series goes Saturday night in Stony Plain. Game four is Sunday at 7 p.m. back in Innisfail.

The Lacombe Generals lead the Fort Saskatchewan 2-0 in the other provincial semi-final series. Game three is set for Saturday in Lacombe at 7:30 p.m.
