Know your Snow Zone or risk being ticketed: City officials

Feb 21, 2018 | 3:47 PM

City of Red Deer officials are reminding residents to make sure your vehicle not parked on the street when snow crews come to do their thing.

“We can plow much more quickly and effectively when vehicles are off the street,” says Greg Sikora, Public Works Manager. “When vehicles are left on the street, our operators have to navigate around them, which slows us down, but it also costs you.”

A ticket for leaving your car on the street during grey zone plowing is $85, not to mention your vehicle will also be plowed in.

“Our Grey Route program helps to keep residential streets driveable and safe by smoothing out the ruts,” explains Sikora. “With the fluctuating temperatures we typically experience, it’s important to cut the snowpack and maintain a smooth driving surface.”

On Thursday, crews will be working green routes in Snow Zone E and grey routes in Zone H.

Streets in Zone D (downtown) will be plower overnight Thursday into Friday.

Parking restrictions are in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. when a Snow Zone is scheduled for plowing. There’s a variety of ways residents can find out when their Snow Zone will be plowed:

– Sign up to receive Snow Zone alerts by text, email or phone at www.reddeer.ca/snowzone

– Check the schedule by address or Snow Zone at www.reddeer.ca/snowzone

– Follow the City on Facebook or Twitter

– Call the Snow Zone hotline at 406-406-8796

– Look for large signs at the entrances to neighbourhoods; signs are not placed on individual streets on Grey Routes.
