Wanted woman arrested in Oriole Park following collision, brief foot chase

Feb 20, 2018 | 10:39 AM

A local woman wanted on outstanding warrants has been arrested following a run in with police last week.

It was shortly before 7 a.m. on February 16 when Red Deer RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious truck parked on Orr Drive.

The truck fled as police approached, narrowly missing colliding with the police cruiser and striking a vehicle in the intersection of Orr Drive and Oak Drive.

The female driver then abandoned the truck and tried to flee police on foot but was arrested after a brief chase.

Several vehicles were damaged as a result of the collision, but, fortunately, no one was injured. The truck driven by the suspect had been reported stolen out of Edmonton.

At the time of her arrest, 27-year-old Melissa Marie Bowie was wanted on warrants out of Edmonton for possession of stolen property and failing to appear in court. She was further wanted on a warrant out of Leduc for failing to comply with court-imposed conditions.

Bowie now faces additional charges of possession of stolen property over $5,000, resist/ obstruct peace officer, dangerous driving and fail to comply with conditions. She is scheduled to appear in court in Red Deer today.

Bowie was one of three people arrested after police busted a theft/fraud ring at Edmonton International Airport last August. Chance and Travis Muranaka were also arrested and are scheduled for a trial May 30 in Leduc Provincial Court.
