Vipers finish regular season this weekend

Feb 9, 2018 | 1:38 PM

The HJHL regular season winds down this weekend and the Vipers (28-5-1) have just two games remaining.

The Vipers look to eclipse the 30 win mark for the first time since 2005-06, the year the club won a Western Canadian title.

On Friday, the Vipers will pay a visit to Three Hills to battle the Thrashers (1-33-0). Red Deer has swept the Thrashers thus far but in recent games have struggled in the Three Hills Centennial Arena. Each of the last two games there the Vipers have only won by a single goal. The puck is slated to drop at 8:00, the road game will feature live play-by-play on Mixlr (www.mixlr.com/reddeervipers) . Road game broadcasts will continue into the post-season.

Saturday, Red Deer returns to the home to take on the Blackfalds Wranglers (21-11-2) in game 36. The Vipers have won two of the three games between the clubs this year. Puck drop is set for 8:00 at the Servus Arena.

The Vipers will be off for more than a week after Saturday as the club will enjoy a bye through the first round of the HJHL playoffs. The only first round series that is set in the North division is a best-of-3 between the Mountainview Colts & Stettler Lightning. The Vipers will play the winner of that series unless the Ponoka Stampeders can upset their first round opponent, which will be the Wranglers or the Airdrie Thunder.

The best-of-3 first round ‘Survivor Series’ in the HJHL will begin next week throughout the league.
