UPDATE: Seven arrested after drugs, homemade bomb seized in Riverside Meadows

Jan 31, 2018 | 1:56 PM

Red Deer RCMP say cocaine, methamphetamine and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking was seized in two search warrants at a Riverside Meadows apartment building yesterday.

The searches were the culmination of a drug trafficking investigation by Red Deer RCMP General Investigations that began on January 10 and included a simultaneous search warrant on a Sylvan Lake residence. Police say that search warrant resulted in RCMP seizing about three pounds of marijuana and approximately $2,000 in cash as proceeds of crime.

During the search warrants in Red Deer, RCMP officers discovered what appeared to be a homemade explosive device. The building was evacuated until the RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit could attend from Edmonton to remove and disassemble the device.

According to RCMP, two of the people taken into custody in Red Deer yesterday have since been released. Between the Red Deer and Sylvan Lake arrests, charges are pending against seven individuals for drug possession and trafficking, and charges related to the explosive device.
