The latest hardware giant to set up shop in Red Deer is celebrating its grand opening this week.

Lowe's will open the doors to its new store at 15 Signet Close, at the south end of Taylor Drive, on Thursday. It's their 62nd location in Canada and first in Central Alberta.

Officials say the store will provide customers with approximately 40,000 products in-stock as well as thousands more available through special order through its website.

"This store represents a local investment in excess of $23 million and created 128 new permanent jobs with an additional 25 to 40 seasonal roles," Lowe's officials say in a release.

Also at Thursday's grand opening, Lowe's will be making a donation to the Central Alberta Women's Emergency Shelter.

Red Deer Mayor Tara Veer, Red Deer - Mountain View MP Earl Dreeshen, and MLAs Barb Miller and Kim Schreiner are all scheduled to attend the grand opening.

Thursday's ceremony get underway at 10 a.m. and is open to the public with giveaways and door prizes available.
