RCMP are urging motorists to slow down as icy roads may have led to a crash on the QE2 near Morningside Saturday night that resulted in serious injuries to an 18-year-old woman.

Mounties say the preliminary investigation indicates it happened around 7:30 p.m. when a southbound truck lost control and crossed the median into the northbound lanes, colliding with a semi-tractor.

Police say the driver of the semi-tractor was not hurt but the lone occupant of the truck, an 18-year-old woman required extraction at the scene and was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Traffic in the northbound lanes of the QE2 was diverted onto Highway 2A towards Ponoka for several hours, with emergency crews remaining on scene for even longer to have the semi-tractor removed.

The investigation continues.
