Molotov cocktail thrown into Drayton Valley apartment building

An investigation is underway after a Molotov cocktail was thrown into a Drayton Valley apartment building Wednesday morning.

Drayton Valley RCMP say on January 10 at 10:30 a.m. police were called to the Carlton East apartment building after a report of a “bomb” smoking under the apartment stairwell. 

All 16 apartments were evacuated, and the Explosive Unit Disposal team attended the scene. The smoking device later turned out to be a Molotov cocktail. 

Police suspect the perpetrator opened the door to the building and threw the Molotov  cocktail underneath the first floor staircase and fled. 

No injuries resulted due to the incident, and the fire was put out before police arrived.

Some items have been seized from the scene and have been taken to and Edmonton lab for further examination. 

Anyone with any information regarding this incident are asked to call Drayton Valley RCMP or call Crime Stoppers.
