EDMONTON- Alberta Occupational Health and Safety is investigating after a woman fell down a manhole that had been blown open by an electrical explosion in downtown Edmonton.

Emergency officials say a woman was taken to hospital following the underground blast in a vault not far from the Alberta legislature around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Officials say the woman fell more than three metres into the vault and firefighters used a harness to pull her out of a narrow passageway where she was caught in some high-voltage wires.

Utilities provider Epcor says safety is its most important concern and it's working with emergency crews to determine what happened.
