All quiet for Rebels at WHL Trade Deadline

Having already made his moves in the days and weeks leading up to Wednesday’s WHL Trade Deadline, Brent Sutter sat back and watched as fireworks flew across the league.

It seemed like each time you blinked another blockbuster trade was coming down as teams like Moose Jaw, Swift Current, Regina, Victoria and Portland loaded up with hopes of going on an extended playoff run.

But the Red Deer Rebels, Sutter says, were happy with what they were able to accomplish well ahead of Wednesday’s 3 p.m. final buzzer.

After all was said and done, the Rebels were able to stockpile draft picks and get a head start on allowing their younger players to develop through game action.

The Rebels did make one roster move on Wednesday, announcing that 17-year old defenceman Sam Pouliot has been reassigned to the Powell River Kings of the British Columbia Hockey League (Junior A).  Pouliot was in his first season with the Rebels and had played 12 games, scoring 1 goal and 0 assists.
