Dawe, Mappin named RDC Athletes of the Week

Red Deer College Athletics has named its first Boston Pizza Athletes of the Week for 2018.

Miranda Dawe – Queens Volleyball
Hometown – Grande Prairie, AB
Kinesiology & Sport Studies (5th year)

Dawe, the Queens’ outside hitter, helped lead her team to a pair of match victories in Olds last weekend.

The Queens won 25-15, 25-18 and 25-14 on Friday, and the fifth-year student-athlete contributed 6 kills, 3 digs and 1 stuff block.

On Saturday, the Red Deer College Queens picked up a 25-21, 25-15 and 25-19 win, and the Kinesiology & Sport Studies student accumulated 11 kills, 1 assist, 11 digs and 3 stuff blocks.

With the two victories, Miranda helped the Queens win their seventh match in a row and improve to 11-3.

Ty Mappin – Kings Hockey
Hometown – Big Valley, AB
Open Studies (1st year)

Mappin, a first-year student-athlete at RDC, had one goal and two assists as the Kings defeated the Concordia University Thunder 5-3 last Friday.

The forward from Big Valley added another goal and assist in a 5-4 road win in Edmonton on Saturday.

Mappin, a former star with the Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), is adjusting nicely to Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Men’s Hockey with 13 points in 15 games with the Kings this season.
