Over 1000 ringette players are in our community this weekend to competing in the 34th annual Red Deer Ringette Friends on Ice Tournament.

The tournament runs from January 5- 7 and features over 60 teams from across Alberta and one from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

All 13 age groups will be represented from U6 – U19, with some of the players preparing to play for Canada at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer.

The tournament is free of charge, with those attending able to purchase 50/50 or raffle tickets in hopes of taking home some winnings. Tournament officials confirm at least one major prize up for grabs which will likely be drawn for on Sunday, January 7.

Games will take place at the Kinsmen A and B Arenas, along with the Dawe, Kinex and Delburne Arenas.

One scheduling change to make note of is that all Friday games originally scheduled for the Kinex Arena have now been moved to the Collicutt Centre. The Kinex is being cleaned up from a water leak earlier this week.
