A Drayton Valley man is now one of two people charged in a pair of bank robberies in central Alberta last year.
Kevin Loughran, 27, was arrested on July 14 and faces seven charges. His next court appearance is Februray 7, 2018 in Vegreville.
Jason Gallie, 39, from Edmonton, was arrested by the Edmonton Police Service on December 22 and faces 28 counts. He was also remanded into custody, with his next court appearance January 4, 2018 in Fort Saskatchewan Provincial Court.
Charges include Robbery with a firearm, Arson, Disguise with intent, Pointing a firearm and Possession of property over $5,000.
The first of the two robberies took place on April 15, 2016 in the Hamlet of Radway northeast of Edmonton. Redwater RCMP responded to a report of an armed robbery by two masked men, with one alleged to have pulled out a handgun and robbed the ATB branch. Police say the men fled with an undisclosed amount of cash in a stolen truck which was later located engulfed in flames.
The second robbery took place May 2, 2016. Tofield RCMP responded to a report of an armed robbery again by two masked men. One is accused of pulling out a handgun and robbing a second ATB branch, this time in the Hamlet of Holden southeast of Edmonton. Mounties say the suspects fled with some cash in a stolen SUV which was later recovered.
In a release, Constable Robin Theberge, RCMP GIS North, says the investigation was extensive.
“The collaboration of detachments and intelligence sharing has now brought these crimes before the courts and we are thankful no one was harmed during these incidents,” he says.
