Red Deer area employers expect an upbeat hiring climate for the first quarter of 2018, according to the latest ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey.
Survey data reveals that 15 per cent of employers plan to hire for the upcoming quarter (January to March), while three per cent anticipate cutbacks.
Another 80 per cent of employers plan to maintain their current staffing levels in the upcoming quarter, while the remaining two per cent are unsure of their hiring intentions.
“With seasonal variations removed from the data, Red Deer’s first quarter Net Employment Outlook of 10 per cent is a two percentage point increase when compared to the previous quarterly Outlook,” said Randy Upright, CEO of Manpower’s Alberta Region. “It is also a decrease of six percentage points compared with the Outlook reported during the same time last year, however this still indicates a respectable hiring pace for the upcoming months.”
Nationally, employers in the Transportation & Public Utilities sector reporting the strongest job prospects.
“While the Canadian economy is expected to do well overall in 2018, businesses are adopting a cautious approach,” said Darlene Minatel, Vice President & General Manager, Manpower Canada Operations. “Many companies are waiting to see the impact of higher interest rates and proposed minimum wage increases in some provinces. Bright spots remain however, especially in Quebec, Ontario and Alberta.”
