With the brand new Servus Arena set to open next month, officials gathered at the venue Tuesday to announce a monthly free community skate.

From 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the first Thursday every month, Servus Credit Union will sponsor a free skate for all residents.

"We invite everyone to come out and enjoy this great new arena with their family and friends," announced Pat Quesnel, Senior Vice President Human Resources and Corporate Services, from Servus's Red Deer office. "This is an ongoing commitment for the fifteen years of our partnership with the City of Red Deer and another way we help Albertans save money and improve their financial fitness."

Finishing touches are being taken care of now to prepare for the official opening on January 13.

"On behalf of City Council and the community, I thank Servus Credit Union for their commitment to recreation and to Red Deer, and we look forward to the first skate event on February 1," Mayor Tara Veer added.
