Officials with Red Deer Emergency Services are reminding residents to stay off the Red Deer River.

This after crews responded to a dog in distress call on the river Saturday morning. Fortunately, the dog was pulled to shore safely and not injured during the incident.

Officials say the ice is currently too thin for people or pets to walk on safely and could give way at any moment.

If you spot someone on the river, you’re asked to call Emergency Services for help and not go out on the ice yourself.
