Emergency personnel are spreading some holiday cheer by conducting charity check stops in support of the local food banks in time for Christmas.
Two different check stops will be put in place, the first will be in Rocky on Hwy. 11 November 30 and then again in Caroline on Hwy. 54 on December 1.
Clearwater County Highway Patrol Sergeant Terri Miller spear headed the idea and says this is the first time something like this has come to the area.
“Just in my travels throughout the province I’ve noticed that other communities were doing charity check stops in conjunction with Christmas and I thought it would be a great idea to start it in Rocky Mountain House and Clearwater County.”
Crews will be out on the highways to accept non-perishable food items or monetary donations. All food collected in Rocky will be donated to the Lord’s Food Bank, and donations collected in Caroline will go to the Shephard’s Food Bank.
"Rocky Search and Rescue was approached to partake in this worthy endeavor and we felt it was an important thing to take part in because this way we can give back to the community that is always so generous to us” said Edward Van Heeren, President of Rocky SAR.
Clearwater Regional Fire Chief Steve Debienne says this charity check stop is about supporting the people of this community.
“It’s about coming together as a group to give back to those people who may be a little less fortunate or having some struggles around Christmas time. We want everyone to enjoy the Christmas season and be able to relax and take some stress off.”
Both check stops will take place from 11:00a.m. until 2:00p.m.
Larger donations may be dropped off at the Rocky Fire Hall or the Caroline Fire Hall.
