Demolition work starting today at Hwy 2 – Gaetz Ave interchange project

Nov 17, 2017 | 9:23 AM

Another significant step towards completion of the new Highway 2 / Gaetz Avenue Interchange Improvement Project is taking place over the next several days.

Starting Friday, November 17 until Wednesday, November 22, Alberta Transportation officials say crews will be demolishing the existing southbound bridge structure over the QE II Highway.

This means Taylor Drive will be closed to traffic from 19 Street to south of the Highway 2/2A turnoff each night during this time. The closures will be in effect from 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. each day and are required to protect motorists while the demolition work takes place, weather permitting.

Detours and lower speed limits will also be in place while this work is underway.

Motorists heading south on Taylor Drive will be re-routed to the Highway 2/32 Street interchange, then back to the Highway 2A turnoff. Motorists heading north on Taylor Drive from Highway 2A will be detoured to the Highway 2 / McKenzie Road interchange, then back north on Highway 2 to access Taylor Drive from 19 Street.

Southbound Highway 2 traffic approaching Highway 2A / Taylor Drive will continue to be temporarily detoured onto the recently completed bridge structure over Taylor Drive. Drivers will still be able to access Highway 2A / Taylor Drive as part of this detour set-up.
