Lightning to face the Saints in high school football provincial playoffs Saturday

The Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association’s annual High School Football Provincial Playoffs are underway and central Alberta teams are well represented this year.

On Friday night in Tier 3 Regional South Semi-final action, the Sylvan Lake Lakers lost 57-7 to the Cardston Cougars at the University of Lethbridge Community Stadium. This means Cardston will now move on to the South Final against the winner of the other South Semi-final, either the Cochrane Cobras or the Brooks Buffalos who play each other on Saturday, November 11 at 2:30 p.m. in Brooks.

Other central Alberta high school football teams in provincial playoff action today include the Hunting Hills Lightning from Red Deer. They are in Tier 2 and competing in a South Semi-final game against the St. Mary’s Saints at Stampeder Field at Shouldice Park in Calgary. Kick-off is 4:15 p.m.

In Tier 4, the Stettler Wildcats will play in a North Semi-final game against the Hillside Cougars at Larry Wilson Field in Stettler. Kick-off is 1:00 p.m.
