Thunder welcome new head coach

Nov 8, 2017 | 4:40 PM

After just two days of searching for a new head coach, the Drayton Valley Thunder have announced they are bringing in the former associate head coach for the Spruce Grove Saints.

Ryan Rechner had been with the Saints for the past year and a half and brings with him 11 years coaching experience. He won Coach of the Year honours in two consecutive seasons of Bantam AAA and Midget AAA with Leduc.

The new hiring comes just days after the Thunder fired Kyle Adams following a dreadful 3-18 start to the season, leaving them at the bottom of the AJHL North Division standings.

Thunder President Monte Waronick called Rechner a stepping stone to building a winning team saying, “We are building not just a winning team, but also a winning culture. Hiring Ryan is one more step forward in achieving our goal.”
